Beechwood Mews is a new pedestrianised public mews running east-west along the length of an empty plot of land owned by Transport for London, connecting Beechwood Avenue to Edge Hill Avenue, with two terraces of buildings on either side of the street. The site has been unused for two decades and only recently released for development as part of the Mayor of London’s Small Sites, Small Builders programme. The 97 homes will be a mixture of red-brick maisonettes, courtyard houses and apartments with the majority of homes having private front doors on to the mews. We are providing all mechanical and electrical services for the scheme including energy strategy and overheating analysis. The design follows a fabric first approach; incorporating passive design measures such as low u-values, low air leakage and low thermal bridging. Active design measures have then incorporated via energy efficient building services, such as 100% low energy lighting, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery and roof mounted photovoltaics to generate a portion of the electricity demand.
