The Brick House stands amongst dense residential streets in a busy part of West London. The constricted plot is surrounded and overlooked by three taller buildings and can only be reached through an adjacent Victorian terrace.
A complex folded concrete ceiling maximises the volume while complying with the neighbours' rights to light, but also gives definition to the different functions carried out in the ground-floor living area and kitchen. Bedrooms are on the lower-ground level and a generous corridor doubles as a library. Each of the bedrooms have a fully glazed wall which opens onto a small private courtyard of its own, effectively doubling the space and exploiting every corner of the triangular site. We provided all mechanical and electrical services for the award-winning project.
