The Town Hall Hotel project in East London involved the conversion of a 1900’s Grade II listed town hall to a 101 bedroom luxury hotel with two restaurants, a bar and associated commercial kitchen, conference facilities and spa facilities. The design and redevelopment aimed to preserve the listed building’s original features while integrating contemporary inserts such as a new roof extension.
The project provided a number of complexities, which required extensive coordination with a number of stakeholders including English Heritage and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. We worked extensively with the client and the architect to ensure that the installation of all new building services would have minimum impact on the interior and exterior of the historic building.
We prepared an energy report for the planning application and negotiated with Building Control regarding compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations within a Grade II listed building and preparation of the BREEAM assessment for the site. The scheme was constructed to a baseline of BREEAM ‘Very Good’ with a focus on both end users and management staff. We were also able to provide accurate details at the planning stage which inputted into the acoustic strategy to lessen any noise issues to adjacent housing.
We provided all mechanical services throughout the project including new soil and waste, water services, heating, comfort cooling and ventilation installations. Electrical services included a new low voltage distribution system, lighting, power, TV distribution, telephone and data, audio visual, fire detection and alarm systems, door entry and gated entry systems, CCTV and lightning protection installations.
